Questions...

~How John feels about our county and its issues~

I understand that in order to support me for County Commissioner you must know just how I feel about certain issues and how I would deal with those issues. I have taken a few of the issues (questions) that I believe are significant to promote and support the continued health and well-being of our wonderful county and supplied you the answers which best describe my ideas, solutions and thoughts of how to deal with these issues.

I fully understand that the questions and answers listed below are only some of the important things we must continue to focus on and address at the county level of government. I stand ready to answer any of your questions, personally. If you have a question or an issue NOT listed below for which you would like to know how I feel, please contact me at the email address attached to this website or call me at the number listed. I look forward to answering any questions you might have and discussing any issue important to you and Hernando County.

~Questions and Answers~

Q - How do we reduce local government spending without dramatically affecting our current quality of life?

A – In a few words, “very carefully”. I am fiscally conservative and for over 28 years have operated my personal business in this manner. I will do the same as your County Commissioner.

I firmly believe that zero-based budgeting must be used along with, whenever possible, co-purchasing amongst the various county/government agencies. Also, when appropriate, I will strongly support the consolidation of departments through attrition. My extensive knowledge and understanding of county government I gained while serving you for 12 years on the Hernando County School Board as well as almost three decades of operating my family business has given me the tools necessary to make the right decisions as to how we spend our County funds wisely without jeopardizing our quality of life

Q – No one should argue that the preservation and protection of our water is not one of the single most important issues facing our county and state. How do we protect this ever important resource?

A - First, I do not profess to be an expert on the preservation and protection of our water resources. However, I do pledge that I will relentlessly study the topic and learn as much as I can as fast as I can. Furthermore, I believe that in order to make informed decisions on your behalf, I should always consult with Hydrologists and other water related experts for their opinions and counsel.

As a proponent of responsible growth, I feel strongly that proper and proven conservation methods should be employed. For example, the use of reclaimed water should simply be the standard not the exception.

Fortunately, there are State of Florida agencies such as SWFTMD (Southwest Florida Water Management District) and DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) which monitor and work hand in hand with our own county officials to safeguard this resource. I pledge 100% of my support to making sure that our county officials continue to work closely with the state agencies.
